ZIMRA Sets Record Straight On Travellers’ Rebate

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has outlined goods on the Open General Import Licence following the gazetting of Statutory Instrument 237A of 2018  which amended Statutory Instrument 122 of 2017.

In a statement released today, ZIMRA said any importations in excess of travelers’ rebate of US$200.00 will require duty while listing items allowed into the country.

“The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority wishes to advise its valued clients that following gazetting of Statutory Instrument 237A of 2018 which amended Statutory Instrument 122 of 2017.

“The amendment puts the following products on Open General Import License (OGIL).This means that the goods listed below will no longer require an import licence from the Ministry of Industry and Enterprise Development.

“Animal Oils,fats(lard,tallow and dripping), Baked beans, Body Creams, Bottled water, Cement, Cereals, Cheese, Coffee creamers, Cooking oil, Crude and refined vegetable oils, soybeans and vegetable fats, Fertilizer, Finished steel roofing sheets, Wheat flour, Ice cream, Jams, Juice Blends, Margarine, Mayonnaise, salad cream and potato crisps, Packaging materials and plastic bags of polymers, Peanut Butter, Pizza base, Yogurts, Palm fat, Shoe Polish, Soap, Sugar, Sweets, Synthetic hair products and Wheel barrows and wheel barrow parts.

“Any importations of the mentioned goods which are of commercial nature or are being imported by a genuine traveler and are in excess of traveler’s rebate of US$200.00 will require a duty,” reads the statement.

Zimra added that the importation of other items outside those listed by cabinet will still require a permit from relevant ministries.

“Clients are urged to have note of these provisions and obligations ton avoid any inconveniences when entering Zimbabwe through designated ports of entry,”reads part of the statement.
