Zimbabwe joins 4th pan African Cultural Congress

THE prioritization of culture within the tenets of sustainable development cannot be ignored, this is why the framework of action which will deliberate on will certainly contribute to the centrally of culture in the development of nations, a senior government official said.

Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of Natural Culture and Heritage Minister Abednico Ncube on Thursday, said   the partnership with the African Union Commission in making the Bureau meeting is a success.

Ncube said the business of the meeting is critical to the achievements of the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063 in line with the resolutions at the 4th PAN- African Cultural Congress held in Sandton, South Africa.

The Minister added the Bureau reflect the mandate in light of raising the focus on culture that lead the African Union.

‘’ I’m pleased to note with the appreciation that your frame work of action and the Implementation Plan which take into consideration the importance of safeguarding our culture and heritage.

‘’ The strengthening of the creative economy is critical to the improvement of the livelihoods of our rural folk’’, Ncube explained.

Ncube said the strengthening of the partnership between the PAN- African Congress and the African Union’s –Economic, Social and cultural Council (ECOSOCC) is in the realisation of the importance of cultural and creative industry to the economy that will be on the course with Agenda 2063.

He said the local cultural and creative sector has taken a keen interest in the deliberations and expects a very positive outcome from the deliberations of the Bureau as well the Pan African Cultural Congress.

Meanwhile, the Minister said, National Dance Festival which is held tomorrow at Pakare Paye Arts Centre is a children’s festival held as part of the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

The venue is owned and run by local musical icon Oliver Mtukudzi and is home to many young artists learning to scale the dizzy heights of music.
