Zimbabwe Cricket hails Chigumbura

Zimbabwe Cricket chief executive officer, Wilfred Mukondiwa has congratulated Captain Elton Chigumbura for reaching a four thousand One-Day International (ODI) run milestone.

Chigumbura reached the mark at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Monday, in the 28th over of the second ODI against Bangladesh which the hosts won by 58 runs.

The Zimbabwe captain once again led from the front during the match, top-scoring with 47 runs.

He also starred in a 73-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Sikandar Raza Butt which threatened to take the game away from Bangladesh before Raza fell for 33.

“Although it was in a losing cause, Chigumbura once again demonstrated his class with the bat, and showed why he has now reached the 4 000 runs milestone.

“It is not always that a batsman gets to such landmark figures and so all of us at ZC are really proud of Chigumbura and hope that his career will continue to flourish not just with the bat but also with the ball,” Mukondiwa explained.

Chigumbura, who is aged 29, has played 194 ODI matches for Zimbabwe and his highest knock is 117 runs – made against hosts Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, on the 26th of May this year.
