Zanu PF youth wing has moved its self from the ‘dirty’ and ‘dodgy’ infighting that has hard hit the ‘revolutionary party’ saying they won’t be used to settle political scores.
Addressing journalists at Zanu PF headquarters, youth league secretary, Pupurai Togarepi said youths do not belong to any faction.
“As the youth league we do not belong to any faction and would not respect any member of our organization who is lured in the factional fights disguising themselves as protecting the interest of the youths,” he said.
He added that the youths will always rally behind President Mugabe.
“We support our president. We could have factional fights in the party but as youths we support one center of power. It is him (President Mugabe) that we believe in. Zanu PF youths belong to the President,” Pupurai said.
He said that the youth wing will not extend its hands to all those who want to use them to settle political scores.
“We won’t allow those who want to exert control over the youth wing. We do not belong to the so called factions,” he said.
Contrary to the accusations of indiscipline leveled against the War veterans by Zanu PF Youth League Deputy Secretary General, Kudzi Chipanga, Pupurai said they respect the war veterans.
“Tinokoshesa ma war vets sevanhu vakatifira tinovaremekedza mune zvose zvavanoita dzingava politics kana economy saka ndingati ukama hwedu nema war vets ndohwe bhandi nebhurugwa.Kune vana mhesvamukono vanoda kuti tipandukire ma war vets edu,” he said
Pupurai also warned journalists against writing stories that he says denigrate Zanu PF leadership.
“You media people enjoy denigrating our leadership we are not happy. Nobody, anywhere must insult our leaders. We are only law abide citizens that is why we don’t react to your claims,” charged Pupurai
He added that as youths they do not tolerate anybody who undermines the president, the two vice presidents and the first lady. He said undermining party leadership is tantamount to inviting the youths to a boxing match.
“If you are so happy to invite us to a boxing ring, we are pleased to be there but that is not the solution,” warned Pupurai.
Commenting on why President Mugabe’s 92nd birthday bash is to be held in the drought-stricken Masvingo province Pupurai said, “Drought is not just unique to Zimbabwe. It is all over Africa but why are you attaching the drought in Masvingo to the celebrations. The celebrations have been there in times of drought and in bumper harvest. Imimi kunzimba dzenyu hamusi kuita ma birthday here iko kune nzara? Queried Pupurai.
He also dismissed allegations that people are being forced to contribute money toward President Mugabe’s birthday celebrations.
“We have our own procedures of raising funds and we have never forced anyone to pay money towards the birthday celebrations. 90% of the people are doing it out of their own volition,” he said.
