Zanu-PF Goes After NGOs, Calls Them Liars And Hyenas

The ruling ZanuPF party has launched a scathing attack on Non Governmental Organizations accusing them of stalling development in communities.

The party’s Director of Communications, Tafadzwa Mugwadi Wednesday said NGOs can go hang as they are of no significant value to national development.

“NGOs must go hang! I have never seen a product inscribed ‘made by NGOs’ or ‘made by Crisis Coalition’. I have however seen violent products from such NGOs. I have seen SUV cars driven by NGO-CSO corrupt cabals. Those who fund NGOs have their economy developed by Capital not NGOs,” Mugwadi said on his Twitter.

His comments follow the same sentiments which were echoed by Chris Mutsvangwa who said NGOs are jealous of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ‘developments’.

He said NGOs are false prophets and liars.

“Don’t listen to them, they are false prophets, witch doctors, they are witches of the night. More and more light will expose them, hyenas, they climb on hyenas in the night but when it’s morning they can’t be seen,” he said.

The ZanuPF led government’s dislike for NGOs is well documented. In recent months, the government has been moving towards enacting a Private Voluntary Organisation ( PVO) Bill into law.

The substance of the Bill has changed since it was gazetted and this occurred without public consultation, a key transparency mechanism.

Musa Kika of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum laments: “We are particularly concerned that the amendments have been introduced without public consultations. This has been done in violation of section 141 of the Constitution which mandates Parliament to invoke public participation in its legislative processes through a process of consultation with interested stakeholders.’’
