Zanu PF has dismissed reports that it will not proceed to distribute housing stands promised to youths during campaigns for the Norton by-election recently.
The Zanu PF youths leadership and Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) on Monday officials visited Knockmallock Farm to assure party youths that they have not withdrew their earlier offer.
Zanu PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, Kudzai Chipanga said there is no going back on promises made by the revolutionary party to allocate residential stands to youths in Norton.
“As promised, we are going to deliver the housing stands to over 5000 home seekers. Despite all what you have been reading in the papers that we will abandon you, we are determined to see to it that every youth in this area has a housing stand.
“Zanu PF is a people centered party which does not live on empty promises, but we deliver because we care about the people that vote for us,” Chipanga said.
Concerns were raised on whether Zanu PF would commit to its pledge during the Norton By-election a move described by many as mere vote buying.
The ruling Zanu PF party leadership in Mashonaland West Province took the opportunity to thank over 6000 people who voted for the party during the Norton by-election, eventually won by independent candidate, Themba Mliswa saying what happened in Norton should not be repeated.
Meanwhile, UDCORP has already set up a temporary structure to register and give stand numbers to the youths. The organization’s town planner, Constance Muchoni said plans are at an advanced stage to start developing infrastructure on the farm.
Last week, The Herald reported that the allocated farm in Norton was private land belonging to Maparahwe Properties who are in possession of an interim court order barring the government from developing the land. It therefore remains to be seen how Zanu PF will proceed with the planned repossession of the farm.
