ZACC Summons Matutu Over Corrupt Officials List

Ruling Zanu PF officials who were recently named and shamed by the Youth League could be in trouble with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission with its chairperson Loice Matanda Moyo inviting Lewis Matutu to bring evidence so that they can proceed with their investigations.

Addressing her first press conference since assuming the hot seat, Matanda-Moyo said her commission will be summoning the Zanu PF youth leader to bring evidence of corruption against those implicated with a view to initiate prosecution.

“We have taken note of the trending list of of alleged corrupt top government and ZANU PF officials by the ZANU PF youth league. We are summoning the youth league to bring evidence of corruption against those implicated with a view to prosecuting such corruption,” said Matanda-Moyo.

She however said once they are done with investigations, they will still work with the National Prosecuting Authority for prosecution.

“Whilst ZACC is happy to announce that it now has powers of arrest, it however refers all completed investigations for prosecution to the National Prosecuting Authority. Once ZACC has investigated the matters and referred them to the NPA for prosecution- that is the end of ZACC functions,” she added.

Among the list were also President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa’s children Neville and Elizabeth, Zanu PF’s secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, Policy and Implementation minister Jorum Gumbo among others.

Through the Statutory Instrument 143 of 2019, ZACC was awarded arresting powers, with Matanda-Moyo saying this will come in handy as it will help them deal with those found guilty from their investigations.
