Award winning dancehall star, Wallas Chirimuko popularly known as Winky D has for the third time been nominated for the African Entertainment Awards in the category of the best Dancehall artist.
Winky D has been outstanding on the local music front bagging various awards and has on more than one occasion out-shined international musicians during concerts where he performed as a curtain raiser.
In an interview with 263Chat, Jonathan Band, Winky D’s manager watered down the landmark achievement saying it was not the first time that the Gafa President has been nominated for awards in Africa.
“It not the first time us being nominated in African awards and we are happy about it shows that our works are not going without recognition and it’s an owner,” said Banda.
He added that it is Winky D’s wish to land the prize but reckoned that it is upto the judges.
“It is going to according to the judges to make us winners but we would like to win,” added Banda.
In 2011, Winky D was nominated for the African Entertainment Awards (AEA) in the Best Mainstream Act of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year categories.
In 2016, Winky D was again nominated for the Best Dancehall Award in Africa competing against five African dancehall artists namely Alonzo Abasi, Patoranking, Shata Wale , Stonebwoy and Takana Zion.
