Vendors around the city of Masvingo have called on the government to stop its ‘predatory tax regime that is blind to economic status of people’ saying they will only accept the 2 percent measure only if President Emmerson Mnangagwa delivers on his employment promises.
In an interview with 263Chat, Masvingo vendors urged government to recognize them and develop proper vending sites within the CBD before deducting the 2 percent from them.
“Its not really fair to say when ever l do mobile transaction a certain percentage is deducted by the mobile operators, l am being charged more than 100% to do my cash out so that l can get foreign currency to buy medication and other staff.
“Now we are being told that they are now deducting 2% from each and every dollar transaction is that fair, we need to understand if Mthuli Ncube is a human being or what, does he have relatives who are suffering from this current situation or they are all rich?,” said Chris Murowe.
“We are dying slowly each and everyday, these guys they don’t want to see us happy, the only way forward is to be border jumpers since we are very close to South Africa.
“We don’t have any business to do, they are chasing us out of streets, where do they think we can get money from? we don’t have pay slips chatova chimbadzo ichi these guys are thieves,” said Tariro Mandizvidza.
Others called for decent jobs and salaries saying the decision by government to tax even the unemployed is unfair.
“These guys must give us some payslips so that they can deduct their 2% from our salaries than stealing from the poor like us, l can’t even afford to buy my children food .
“They should give us our pensions from those 2 cents they are robbing us what we know is that tax should be deducted from those who have pay slips.
“If they want vendors to pay taxes they should recognize us as human beings, provide us with proper vending sites within the Central Business Districts and we are demanding our pensions after 5 years or more since we are contributing to the economy like what civil servants are doing,” said Tawanda Zingwe a Masvingo dealer.
