$110k boost for Harare and Mpilo Central hospitals

The country’s top referral hospitals, Harare and Mpilo central whose health delivery system is under tremendous strain has received a major boost as Absolute Return for kids (ARK), an international charity formed by British philanthropists has availed funds for renovating maternity wards among other thingss

Ark renovated Harare Maternity hospital and renovations at Mpilo hospital are currently underway.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the renovations done at Harare Maternity hospital, ARK Country Director, Dr Vonai Teveredzi Chimhamhiwa said no woman should die while giving life and no child should lose life before it has begun

“As ark we believe in a Zimbabwe where no woman should die while giving life and where no child should lose life before it has begun,” she said

The renovations and procurement of supplies for both hospitals follows the existence of complications related to pregnancy and child birth.

The Ark boss said the current work of Ark is an attempt to provide inputs which include infrastructure and materials to facilitate infection prevention.

She added that, “For Zimbabwe measles, mumps, and rubella had gone up three times since Millennium Development goals.

“Many of these conditions or deaths could be prevented through timely interventions that have proven to be effective and affordable,” said Chimhamhiwa.

Speaking on behalf of the minister of health, Mrs Matombo, Vice Chairperson of Harare Hospital Management board applauded the gesture by ARK.

“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the sterling work done by ARK in changing the ambiance of Harare Maternity Hospital such as facelift has a positive impact to the health care tendered to the patient. This has introduced the much need privacy for our clients and also greatly enhances the infection control process thus minimizing sepsis among our patients,” she said.
