Two Harare man who posed as cops appeared in court yesterday facing charges of falsifying identity.
The duo Dennis T Musoko and Anesu Guzha were dragged to court by Tendai Chirango, who they conned and forced to pay US$2 000 which they claim was the remaining balance after they sold him a car.
Prosecutor Mr Devoted Gwashavanhu-Nyagano told the court that Musoko, Guzha and two other men who were not identified, pretended to be police officers and threated Chirango, who they claim had not settled the remaining balance after they sold a car to him on 2 September 2014.
The four who pretended to be police officers are said to have forcefully confiscated an insurance disk from Chirango, the complainant.
Chirango told the court that, on 29 January 2016 the accused persons, together with other two unidentified men visited his workplace claiming to be Zimbabwe Republic Police officers.
He added that the four member gang threatened to have him jailed and vowed to deal with him saying that they were cops.
The accused persons denied allegations saying that the deal stipulates that the car remains their property until Chirango settles the remaining $2000.
The car was sold for $6000 and Chirango paid $4 000.
Upon denying allegations, Guzha also told the court that the complainant urged him to revoke the debt so that he will drop the charges.
“The complainant signed the agreement of sale knowing that he will apply his law expertise to deny us our remaining balance.I called him asking for my money , and he started telling me that the deal was illegal,” said Guzha.
The accused denied the fact that they pretended to be police officers saying they even advised Chirango to report the matter to the Police after they failed to reach an agreement.
The case was remanded to 22 February.
