Tsvangirai Wields Axe on More Party Members

The Morgan Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has suspended its National Organizing Secretary, Abednico Bhebhe in connection with the recent violence incident in Bulawayo that left the party’s vice President Thokozani Khupe and other members nursing wounds.

In a statement released to the media on Friday, Tsvangirai’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka said an extraordinary national executive meeting deliberated on the violence that took place in Bulawayo early this month and decided to suspend Bhebhe for making statements that put the name of the labor backed movement into disrepute.

“The executive received a report from the probe team that investigated the disturbances and deliberated on the committee’s findings.

“The meeting resolved that the National Organizing Secretary, Abednico Bhebhe be suspended forthwith following the probe team’s findings that he made statements to the press that put the party into disrepute,

“His matter has also been duly referred to the national council for disciplinary action to commence in line with the party Constitution,” said Tamborinyoka.

The Bulawayo skirmishes saw the party’s vice President, Thokozani Khupe sustaining injuries together with other party members.

Tamborinyoka added, “The National Executive resolved that Deputy Treasurer-General Mr Charlton Hwende remain suspended following the findings of the probe team that he made inflammatory statements before the disturbances.

“His matter has been referred to the national council for disciplinary action against him to commence in line with the party Constitution,”

The MDC-T highest decision making organ also resolved that suspensions against all the youths who were involved in the Bulawayo fracas including deputy national youth Chairperson, Shakespeare Mukoyi be upheld with their issue referred to the party’s disciplinary Committee in line with the party Constitution.

Meanwhile, suspended deputy national spokesperson, Thabitha Khumalo has been be reinstated to her position following her exoneration of any wrongdoings related to the Bulawayo violence.

Tamborinyoka said the party resolved to continue taking stern and decisive action on anyone implicated in violence.
