Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Alliance Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has fired salvo at President Emmerson Mnangagwa over his soft approach to dealing with corruption saying his hands are tied as he is at the epicentre of it.

Addressing thousands of party supporters in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province at the weekend, Chamisa said corruption was in the DNA of Zanu PF.

“Some say Mnangagwa wants to deal with corruption, will mosquito cure malaria? The corrupt cannot cure corruption, the government officials are very corrupt they cannot deal with corruption, it’s in their DNA, it’s their default setting and that’s their way of doing things.

“They think leadership is a green light to steal, they take leadership as a feeding trough in which they can use to siphon state resources to their own benefit, and we want to correct that as soon as we assume power,” said Chamisa.

He said he will give 6 months amnesty to those who siphoned state resources through unscrupulous means and that his government will not be soft on corrupt government officials.

He further reiterated that the economic transformation is a movement for the young people which cannot be led by Mnangagwa and Vice President retired General Constantino Chiwenga who are heroes of the liberation struggle.

“For the liberation struggle Mnangagwa, Chiwenga and Robert Mugabe we thank you and we appreciate the role that you played in setting this country free, but the economic war is for this generation, it’s for us the young. You cannot be a hero in two struggles,” added Chamisa.

At his inauguration ceremony in November last year, Mnangagwa promised to tackle corruption and went on to publish a list of individuals and companies involved in externalizing foreign currency out of the country.
