Streak confident of better results.

Newly appointed Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) head coach, Heath Streak has stressed his confidence in the availability of quality resources to take the country’s cricket to a higher level.

The 42 year old former captain was unveiled on Tuesday after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract to lead the Chevrons, filling in the post that was left vacant by Dave Whatmore in May.

Speaking to reporters, the former feared pace bowler said he has faith in the team and resources available to take the country back to glory days when Zimbabwe used to be a competitive side.

“I’m coming in at a time when there seem to be stability in the team and I want to build on that. We have great players and we have a large pool to select our players from so I will work with the management to come up with the best team to represent the country.

“Not only am I committed to seeing the team compete but I want us to start winning games just as we used to do during my playing days. I believe we have enough amour in our team to beat anyone but we need to be disciplined,” said the former number one bowler.

Streak confessed he has always had a desire to coach the Chevrons after having had an opportunity to captain the side during his playing days.

He further stated he hopes to lure some of the country’s talent that had left for greener pastures while also ensuring measures are put in place to keep the promising talent from leaving the country.

While conceding that lack of game time was a major hindrance to the development of the game, Streak said he holds full belief in the efforts being put in place by Zimbabwe Cricket and promised to produce a vibrant and energetic side.

A lot will be expected from Streak to motivate the success starved and lowly confident Chevrons to rise to their potential from the current rankings of number 10, 11 and 12 in Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty-20 international championships respectively.

Streak’s immediate task will be ensuring that Zimbabwe salvage something in the upcoming two-match test series at home against Sri Lanka followed by a One Day International Tri-Series involving the West Indies and the Asian side.
