Steve Dyer, Son Bokani Shine At HIFA

Legendary South Africa musician, Steve Dyer and his son Bokani on Wednesday left fans asking for more in one of his memorable father-son collaboration that is likely to remain the highlight of this year’s Harare International Festival of Arts.

Dyer who was playing the saxophone and flute during his two hour performance is the brains behind Mahube, a platform that has seen him performing alongside his son, Bokani, Oliver Mtukudzi and Hope Masike among other African greats.

Speaking to 263Chat, Dyer’s son Bokani said that performing alongside his father was an honor he will cherish forever.

“Performing with my father is an honor I will always cherish as an upcoming artiste and also as a son.

“He is helping me grow as an artiste in a manner which I would not have been able to do on my own and I am grateful.

“All that and performing at HIFA is phenomenal for any artiste in my shoes,” said Bokani who plays the piano and keyboard.

Dyer’s performance was well received as they belted some Jazz songs which he described as African music penetrating the international market.

“This is a sound from Africa and it is penetrating the world as fans across the globe are appreciating it,” said Bokani alongside his father after the show.

HIFA continues on Friday with Oliver Mtukudzi sharing the stage with Winky D in another highlight of Zimbabwe’s prestigious festival.
