Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has donated an assortment of goods to the Albino Charity Organization of Zimbabwe (ALCOZ).

Handing over the donation, Stanbic Bank Chief Financial Officer, Solomon Nyanhongo said because of their working relationship with ALCOZ they have come to know the challenges that come with Albinism.

“People with Albinism face a lot of challenges within the society,

“They face challenges like discrimination; our history also does not help as there many myths and superstitions related to albinism which are wrong,

“This does not only happen in Zimbabwe but there are also horror stories in Tanzania, Malawi and Worldwide,” said Nyanhongo.

One of the major challenges they face is skin damage caused by excessive exposure to the sun.

“If you are living with albinism its either you have low skin pigmentation or no pigmentation at all,

“It is very dangerous and difficult; hence we are donating sun screen lotions to make life easier and bearable.

“I would like to believe the donation came at the most appropriate time with high temperatures and heat wave coming,” added Nyangongo.

He added that as a bank they have a robust corporate social responsibility program that focuses on health as a focus area and bursaries for the disadvantaged children.

Executive Director of Albinism Charity Organization of Zimbabwe, Loveness Mainato expressed gratitude and joy towards the donation received.

“Stanbic Bank has stood by us since 2015 and as an organization we are so grateful and thankful that we have such people in the community who have passion for the less privileged,

“My wish is that other corporates imitate what Stanbic Bank has done, they intervene in times of need

“These donations will not be for Harare and Chitungwiza but other remote areas which seem neglected,” said Mainato.

The assorted donations consisted of 600 Dove soaps, 300 Nivea Sunscreen lotions, 300 Lip Balms and 300 Sun hats.
