St Giles Medical rehabilitation Center together with Island Hospice and Healthcare have joined forces in an effort to provide better healthcare services to the highly depended members of the society.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Head of Rehabilitation Unit in the Ministry of Health and Child Care , Mrs Cecilia Nhleya , Health and Child Care Minister, Dr David Parirenyatwa, said the partnership will not only benefit their clients, but the nation of Zimbabwe at large
“Today I witness a partnership between two organizations specializing in the health care of the sick and vulnerable members of the society. You will agree with me that there are difficulties faced and experienced in taking care of highly depended loved ones , so this initiative will go a long way in helping the affected as well as their families and the society,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.
He thanked the two organizations for working tirelessly over the years to improve the nation’s health delivery system despite the unfavorable economic conditions.
“We encourage other organizations to emulate this partnership and to come up with such initiatives as we are witnessing today. This will in turn ensure that more is done to improve the health delivery system in Zimbabwe,” Parirenyatwa said.
Speaking at the same gathering, Executive Director of Island Hospice and Healthcare, Bev Sebastian said “our organization will be providing specialist palliative care services to patients and families suffering from chronic illness who will be referred by doctors for respite to St Giles Medical Rehabilitation Center.
“these services will include hospital visits, pain and symptom management , provision of psychological , spiritual and social care for patients and families , and when required follow up services at home,” Sebastian said.
She said the partnership marks a new era of innovation and commitment in the health sector, underscored by courage and, endeavor and achievement synonymous with St Giles’ facility and sealed with care, compassion and impact that Island Hospice is known for.
Chief Executive Officer of St Giles, Mr. Bartholomew Mswaka said they are looking forward to this partnership as it opens up opportunities for future projects between them and Island Hospice.
He thanked the Ministry of Health and Child Care for giving the blessing to bring about the partnership and urged the society to keep supporting those loved ones who need their care, compassion and love.
