Spate of robberies hit Mvuma

A spate of robberies has hit the mining town of Mvuma in the Midlands, about 190 kilometres along the Harare – Masvingo highway.

In a notice to drivers, the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Mvuma, warned them to avoid stopping at lay-byes.

“There is a spate of robberies occurring between Mvuma and Chaka. If you have a breakdown along the highway, contact police on their hotlines,” read the communique, made available to 263chat.

The robberies come at a time Gokwe serial killer Alois Tapiwa Nduna, who confessed to killing 14 people and drinking their blood, was caught in the area.

In March, Brighton Java(27) of Nyagari South Village under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi, was arrested for robbing Lieutenant Colonel Muza of KG6 Army headquarters at a Mvuma lay-bye using a P1 pistol (serial number BSAP 1005) stolen around November 2014 from Kwekwe CIO boss, Blasio Katsande.

Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga remanded Java in custody.
