Zimbabwe’s largest fast food company, Simbisa Brands Group has dismissed as fake, news circulating on social media that the company has cut its working hours due to the ongoing power cuts across the country.
Simbisa Brands is the holding company of fast food outlets which include Chicken inn, Fish inn, Pizza inn, Bakers inn, Steers and Nandos among other brands.
The social media hoax brought uncertainty to the consuming public since it emerged beginning of the week.
In a statement the company said its business trading hours remained unchanged.
“Simbisa Brands advices its customers that our business trading hours remain unchanged. Our restaurants are equipped with full back-up power systems to ensure our customers will always enjoy their favorite meals fresh and hot at their convenience,” read the statement.
Contrary to this statement, a fake social media hoax message read the following:
“Chicken Inn, a fast food brand in Zimbabwe operated by Simbisa Brands group of companies has announced that it will be altering its working hours due to power cuts in the country. This follows the implementation of “stage 2” by the local power utility, ZESA which disconnects most areas from power for 16 hours a day. Chicken Inn has said that it will now be trading between the following hours: Monday – Thursday: 1130 hours – 1430 hours and then from 1730 hours – 2000 hours. Friday – Sunday: 1030 hours – 1430 hours and then from 1600 to 2100 hours,” it stated
Simbisa Brands says the poster circulating is instead an advert they posted in 2010 with an old Steers logo on it.
