The Unilever sponsored, Shield-Chelsea football talent search, which will see one lucky Zimbabwean getting a once in a life time opportunity to train with Chelsea legends in London, kicks off in Bulawayo this weekend with trials set for Gifford High School.
The opportunity comes from the Shield, manufacturers of deodorant and anti-perspirant brands in partnership with Chelsea Football Club which kick-started in 2017.
The partnership will present Zimbabweans and other Africans amateur football players with the opportunity to feel and see how it takes to train like champions among other opportunities.
This individual will get to train at world-class training facilities and get to play against Chelsea legends.
Shield Brand Manager, Susan Luneta urged Bulawayo youths to come for trials in large numbers.
“This is a dream come true for the young men and women who dare to chase their goals. I urge all youths in Bulawayo aged between 18 and 25 to come to Gifford High School on Saturday on 19 May. We are still accepting entries into the competition
“We want to give every youth a chance. Those who didn’t get the opportunity to enter via the SMS, WhatsApp and USSD platforms can come on the day of the trials. All they need to do is bring with them a Shield product as this will be a requirement to enter. Trials will start at 7:00 am,” said Luneta.
The try-outs will be overseen by four local football coaches, who include former Warriors coach, Calisto Pasuwa, Former Highlanders Coach, Cosmas ‘Tsano’ Zulu, former Dynamos midfielder, Naison Mchekela and former Caps United Utility, Alois Bunjira.
A total of 15 youths will be selected from the Bulawayo trials to join another group of 15 players who will be selected from the Harare trails set for 2 June. The final 30 players will then go to a one-week boot camp session in July.
After the bootcamp, 3 Chelsea Coaches will be coming to Harare on the 25th of July to pick the final winner who will go to Cobham in the UK to train and play against Chelsea legends.
