In a groundbreaking move to empower and educate young people on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and other critical subjects, the Sexual Reproductive Health advocacy network (SAYWHAT) unveiled the “Smart Learners Hub” on the International Day of the Girl Child in Harare.
The platform, aimed at providing information and resources, will serve not only those in tertiary institutions but also young people in various communities and secondary schools.
In an interview with 263Chat, Dorcas Chikorova head of programs at SAYWHAT said the demand for comprehensive information on SRH continues to rise among young people, the organisation recognized the need to extend its reach beyond tertiary institutions.
“There has been demand for information from young people. We have been visiting tertiary institutions educating them but how about others who are not in these institutions but require the same information.
“It is against this background that we decided to be creative and develop other content that is not just for those young people in tertiary institutions but in various communities and secondary schools,” said Chikorova
This realization drove the organization to develop the Smart Learners Hub, a versatile platform that aims to address the knowledge gap that exists in different communities and secondary schools.
The Smart Learners Hub offers a diverse range of courses, with a particular focus on SRH, addressing the challenges that affect young people in today’s world.
Through this platform, SAYWHAT seeks to empower young girls and boys with the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives.
In a speech delivered on her behalf, Information Communication Technology (ICT) Minister, Tatenda Mavetera, highlighted the importance of the Smart Learners Hub in empowering the girl child and the youth at large.
“By ensuring that every child is given the tools and opportunities to thrive, we build a society that is fairer, more inclusive, and represents the diverse potential of its members,” said the ICT Minister
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Digital Generation, Our Generation,” Minister Mavetera emphasized the need to renew the commitment to supporting and advocating for the rights of the girl child.
She encouraged everyone to rally behind innovations like the Smart Learners Hub, which strengthens access to information for young girls and boys.
Such platforms, she noted, create a digital environment that nurtures dreams, fuels ambitions, and protects their well-being.
Minister Mavetera also expressed her gratitude to the Swedish Embassy, which provided support for the development and design of the Smart Learners Hub.
