Zimbabwe’s cotton industry has been dwindling since the turn of the millennium, leaving most of the farmers to shift into the lucrative tobacco farming business. One of the major factors contributing to the fall of fortunes in the cotton and ginnery industry has been the serious issue of poor corporate governance, lack of investment and corruption.
We caught up with Susan Tapfumaneyi, a Cotton Farmer from Sanyati who expressed the community’s grievances over Cottco Company which has not been treating farmers in that area very well. Many complained about the abuse they are receiving from the cotton buyers’ representatives.
