
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) says the 8th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which is set to start today in the capital has recorded a sharp increase in the number of both local and international exhibitors.
This increase surfaced at a pre-event press briefing held by the Zimbabwe’s tourism marketing body, ZTA yesterday.
Addressing journalists ZTA Chief Executive, Karikoga Kaseke, revealed that there is a remarkable improvement on the eighth edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo .
“There is a big improvement on the 8th edition with 110 buyers and 27 media compared to 66 buyers and 10 international media hosted in 2014.
“To date we have 103 buyers and 18 international media who are already in the country and we are expecting more to grace this tremendous event,” he said.
He also said a lot of buyers had made appointments with exhibitors online
The second edition of the re-positioned expo has so far chronicled a 10% increase in the number of stands. 128 stands have been occupied compared to 115 stands in 2014.
ZTA boss also revealed that the area of space occupied so far has widened.
“Space uptake also increased 350 square metres from the 4150 square metres recorded last year,” he said.
A statement issued by ZTA revealed that foreign stands increased by 4 stands compared to the 19 stands occupied by foreigners last year.
Among African countries South Africa is leading with 16 buyers while the United Kingdom has five buyers present.
Areas covered by the international buyers during pre-tours include Kariba, Eastern Highlands, Mutare, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Matopos, Hwange and Victoria Falls.
