The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has hailed Econet Wireless’ flagship company EcoCash for facilitating financial inclusion and raising the country’s flag high regionally and internationally.
Addressing stakeholders at the Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange today, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Deputy Governor, Dr Jesimen Chipika recognised Cassava Smart tech for taking advantage of the Zimbabwean economic crisis as a big opportunity to promote financial inclusivity.
“Today’s listing of the shares of Cassava Smart Tech Zimbabwe is a clear testimony that indeed the country is open for business.
“l am aware that Cassava Smart Tech is part of the Econet family which over the years has continued to show the confidence in our economy through innovations and investments in Zimbabwe.
“As monetary authorities we are aware of the critical role that one of the pillars of Cassava smart tech Zimbabwe,EcoCash has played in this country in facilitating transactions and financial inclusion over the past few years Zimbabwe is way ahead of the other countries in the region.
“Whenever we are presenting the EcoCash model globally,people knows that there is no cash in Zimbabwe and we have old them that we don’t need cash since we have got EcoCash so what seemed like a disadvantage,we are glad Econet turned it into a big business opportunity,” she said.
Dr Chipika urged Zimbabweans to remain strong and not be discouraged by the ‘transitional’ hardships facing the country.
“Lets not be discouraged by the hardships, they are transitional so lets keep pushing, those who will come and help us will find us on the way and we will will not wait for anyone.
“The economy is ours so lets keep pushing and we are excited with the move that Cassava Smart tech Zimbabwe Limited has taken,” she added.
Meanwhile Cassava Smartech has successfully un-bundled itself from the Econet Wireless family to list on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.
