Premier League And La Liga Preview, 18-20 October 2022

SuperSport viewers on DStv  can look forward to extended action from the Premier League and La Liga, with matches scheduled to be played from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 October 2022.

DStv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The pick of Premier League matches for this midweek round is the meeting of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on the evening of Wednesday 19 October. Both the Red Devils and Spurs have fallen short of expectations so far this season, but these teams are capable of high-class performances and a thrilling clash of styles could be in store.

“We are trying to do our best, we’ll continue to do this and now we have to move on quickly because we have an important game [against United],” said Tottenham manager Antonio Conte. “We have to take some positivity from this game and understand that we have to continue to work to improve.”

Wednesday also sees a south coast derby between Bournemouth and Southampton, a London derby between Brentford and Chelsea, Everton heading to Newcastle United and Liverpool hosting West Ham United – with the Hammers’ Jarrod Bowen recently praising manager David Moyes for making the team hard to beat.

“What this manager does is make us a tough group to beat and break down. You saw on the counter-attack the chances we had and then we scored two well-taken goals. A clean sheet as well which the defenders will love and it’s a massive three points for us with a lot of games coming up. Hopefully this is the first of many wins we can pick up along the way,” said Bowen.

The midweek round opens on Tuesday with Nottingham Forest visiting Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers visiting Crystal Palace, while Thursday features Fulham at home to Aston Villa and Leeds United visiting Leicester City.

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch says he would not give up his job at Elland Road for any other: “I don’t want to leave. If I got an offer to go anywhere in the world right now to coach football I wouldn’t leave this spot,” he explained. “I’m more happy in my career than I’ve ever been and I’m very thankful to be here, and my total focus and our total focus is just trying to maximise what we’re achieving every day.”

SuperSport is the only place where you can get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the headline fixture sees Barcelona host Villarreal at Camp Nou on the evening of Thursday 20 October.

Barca will be hoping to take all three points off the Yellow Submarine, with manager Xavi Hernandez recently praising the influence of attacker Ansu Fati: “Ansu has been very good, I have seen him at 100 percent, these two weeks have done him very well, he has been extraordinary in training. Ansu has proposed to be important, and I’m convinced that he will be.”

The round opens on Tuesday with a potential thriller between Sevilla and Valencia, with Los Che manager Gennaro Gattuso backing promising young defender Jose Gaya to remain at the club for the long term. “I think that Gaya will accept our proposal and sign a new deal. He’s the captain, the club made a very good proposal so I’m now really confident,” said the Italian tactician.

Tuesday also sees Athletic Bilbao visit Getafe and Atletico Madrid will welcome Rayo Vallecano, while Wednesday’s top match sees Real Madrid head to Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero for a clash with Elche – with manager Francisco Rodriguez calling for his team to record an upset result.

“We know that Real has a magnificent team and a great manager, one of the leaders in our field,” said Francisco. “But we are on our home soil and we must work hard to compete. It is football… anything can happen in the 90 minutes and we must have belief in ourselves.”

The round also features Real Sociedad at home to Mallorca, Cadiz at home to Real Betis, Celta Vigo away to Real Valladolid, Almeria host Girona and Osasuna welcome Espanyol to El Sadar Stadium in beautiful Pamplona.

No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv enjoy an unrivalled selection of football from around the world!
