Zimbabwe continues to register successes in taming a worrying trend of armed robbery cases following the arrest of two seperate gangs in Murewa, Mashonaland East.
According to the police, three men Tatenda George Kapikinyu (24), Fungai Kaseke (40) and Jethro Mafukidze (27) were arrested for robbery cases which occurred in and around Murewa.
The trio are in police custody and waiting for the court appearance.
Recently, two women who were employed as shopkeeper and cashier were attacked and robbed of cash amounting to ZAR 13 200 and US$15, cellphones, shoes and other valuables.
In another case that happened on the 25th of July 2021 at Chatseka area, Mutawatawa, Murewa, Police arrested Joseph Kabunze (67), Perfect Kabunze (29), Chatseka Mapuranga (39) and Makwanya Kahwiti (29) for unlawful possession of ivory.
According to the police, “the arrest of the three accused persons led to the recovery of four pieces of elephant tusks weighing 12,5 kilograms and valued at US$2635”.
However, the police said that investigations are underway.
