Opposition parties in the country are optimistic of their chances in the forthcoming elections with most of them expressing readiness to battle out the ruling Zanu PF in the do or die polls set for August this year.

The Morgan Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change say they are confident of grabbing power in the upcoming elections should they be held in a free and fair environment.

Party spokesperson, Obert Gutu said, “Going forward, the party will be rolling out a program of action that includes rallies and other public meetings throughout the length and breadth of the country. All members of the national standing committee and other senior party leaders will be deployed to various provinces in order to spearhead the party’s election campaign.

“The MDC will continue to lobby ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) and other relevant stakeholders to make sure that conditions for a free and fair election are put in place as a matter of extreme urgency.”

Zimbabwe Partnership for Prosperity (ZIPP) spokesperson , Innocent Netanyau also expressed his party’s readiness for the next plebiscite saying the strategies they are employing will see them shock the ruling Zanu PF by romping to election victory.

“We are very ready and and so far we have visited rural areas conducting door to door campaigns targeting youth as well,” said Netanyau adding that the party will win the election since they have the support of the church.

“We are meeting to finalize our candidate selection guidelines this weekend and will be sharing these with our structures. Our provincial leadership meetings have been underway since last weekend and will continue,” said Gumbo.

Another opposition party, People’s Democratic Party’s spokesperson, Jacob Mafume said his party is excited by the number of people who have registered to vote adding that its giving them confidence that they will win the forthcoming elections.

“At the moment its voter registration that we are concerned with. We are not looking at the campaigns. We are focused on making sure as many people are registered as possible. Once that is done, the campaign can be launched as we will know who to campaign for.

“However we are happy with the registration and we are sure that at the end of this blitz there will be many new voters,” said Mafume adding that the MDC Alliance model will make it easy for them to defeat the ruling party.

The 2018 elections will be a litmus test for Zanu PF and the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration, which has been in power fro two months.
