Heal Zimbabwe Trust Director, Rashid Mahiya described the on going National Peace and Reconciliation Commission bill public hearings as an absurd process which has sidelined areas which need healing the most.
By Philemon Jambaya
Mahiya singled out Tsholotsho as one area that could have been included as a destination for the NPRC public hearings.
He questioned reasons why Tsholotsho was excluded despite being one of the areas seriously affected by the Gukurahundi atrocities.
“We need to know how the parliament came up with those areas while turning a blind eye on areas like Tsholotsho which were affected by Gukurahundi” fumed Mahiya.
The Gukurahundi massacre of 1983 which remain the darkest period in ZImbabwe’s post-independence history, is said to have claimed more than 20 000 civilians .
Farai Mangava, a Bulawayo resident said that the government is not genuine in addressing the national healing issue.
“You just wonder why areas like Tsholotsho are being left out, we need people who are serious, this is not a matter to joke with like what they are doing” said Mangava.
