After successfully launching their second album EKHAYA & Live Concert at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in the City of Kings – Bulawayo, International Touring Zimbabwean All Female Ensemble – NOBUNTU will be herded for Harare on the 18th of June where they will be performing at the Old Mutual Theatre, Alliance Francaise de Harare. The group will be joined on stage in Harare by Afro-Soul Sensation – Tariro NeGitare.
The group which recently toured Canada is taking their new album, EKHAYA nationally before they take it to the rest of the world this July. The national tour was set for Bulawayo, Harare and ending with Victoria Falls on the 25th of July.
“Ekhaya means home and there is no place like home, hence our new album has to be sampled home first before we take it to the rest of the world. With our first album we did a lot of international tours and few local performances, hence we thought it was really important for us to begin at home and get the blessings before we embark on international tours”, said Zanele Manhenga of NOBUNTU.
Nobuntu is made up of 5 strong Zimbabwean women, who took it upon themselves to invade the “mens genre” Imbube and bring in their voice to the entire music genre. Thandeka Moyo, Joyline Sibanda, Zanele Manhenga, Heather Dube and Duduzile Sibanda, make up the ensemble, NOBUNTU.
“The response in Bulawayo was incredible and humbling, it just reflected how home is best. We look forward to performing in Harare and Victoria Falls, before we take the album to Italy this July”, expressed Heather Dube.
Their second album, EKHAYA launched on online stores in March prior to having the singles available on local radio stations. The first album THINA, got the ensemble nominated for a Zimbabwe International Women Award (Best Musician Category) which were held in London, United Kingdom. The video to the lead single, NARINI from their second album, was on Number one for 4 weeks on the Top 10 Music Videos on Zambezi Magic TV.
“We’re extremely excited to be performing with Tariro NeGitare in Harare, she is very talented and humble. She is a strong woman, sister, mother and performer, having her share a stage with us is humbling”, said Manhenga.
Tariro neGitare (loosely translated, Tariro and the guitar) is a guitarist, singer and songwriter based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her music has a strong afro soul feel and exudes evident influences from artists like Oliver Mtukudzi, Sara Tavares, Tracy Chapman amongst others.
