Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC-Alliance) spokesperson, Professor Welshman Ncube says the ruling Zanu PF has had one too many a coup and there is no room for another chance in the 2018 harmonized elections.

Speaking to journalists soon after the MDC Alliance Rally at Mkoba Stadium on Sunday, Prof Ncube said after rebuffing the late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s victory in 2008 and former President, Robert Mugabe’s removal by the military in November last year, the current Zanu PF leadership has no room to stage another coup come August.
“We appreciate that there will be the sentiment that the army didn’t do a coup in order to surrender power within nine or so months. We appreciate that but we think that they have done one coup too many.
“They did a preemptive coup against President Tsvangirai in 2008 and imposed Mugabe; they then overthrew Mugabe last year and they have persuaded the world that what they did was not a coup but after our victory, they can only reverse that victory by doing another pre-emptive coup.
“So I don’t see them doing it because they will not get away with it because it will be one coup too many,” said Ncube.
He added that the alliance’s growing support will make it difficult for Zanu PF to play around with the figures, as is alleged in the 2008 elections.
“You cannot rig the overwhelming numbers that we have and that we are going to have. The momentum is growing, it’s going to get bigger and bigger.
“As far as we are concerned they will not be able to rig 80 percent of the people of this country and we are very clear on that,” he said.
He said the alliance has worked on a document to ensure electoral reforms are made before the polls so that they are proofed from rigging.
“What we have worked on as an alliance is a peace document which is a document of what has to be agreed, what needs to be done in advance so that there is no rigging. We have not worked on post rigging yet,” said Ncube.
The rally was graced by top MDC Alliance principles who had a chance to address the crowd.
Former Zanu PF Central Committee member, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, who was dismissed from Zanu PF and Joice Mujuru’s National People First made an appearance during the rally.
Professor Ncube said Bhasikiti is welcome to join the alliance but no official communication with the veteran politician has been made and he (Ncube) is sure to make a follow up on his position.
