Chief Justice, Luke Malaba today (Thursday) presided over the swearing in of eight new Judges of the High Court at Constitutional Court in Harare amid calls for the team to help clear the backlog of cases at the Supreme Court.
The eight, Phildah Muzofa, Mabhikwa Thompson James, Muzenda Issac, Wamambo Neville Munyanyiso, Chirau Sivia, Benjamin Chikowero, Kwenda Pisirai and Manzunzu Jacob took their oath to serve the country today following their appointment by president Mnangagwa.
The judges were appointed following public interviews held by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) last year in terms of section 185(2) of the constitution of Zimbabwe.
Among the eight were two women and six men. The new judges are expected to help clear the backlog of cases at the Supreme Court.
In an interview with 263Chat soon after taking oath of office, Judge Benjamin Chiwokero promised to honestly serve the country with out fear or favor.
“Like what we said before Chief Justice Luke Malaba, I will serve the country honestly,” he said.
The eight were recommended for appointment by the JSC after excelling during the interviews.
