Zimbabwe National War Veterans Association has distanced itself from the media reports alleging that the former war fighters were claiming gratuities of up to $500,000 from the government.
Addressing journalists in Harare on Thursday, ZNLWVA Chairperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa rubbished state media reports that his association was demanding obscene amounts of money from the government. “The $500 000 story is false, it never came from the war vets, we did not demand the so called money,” he said adding that the story is a media creation which they as war veterans deny.
He added, “We cannot demand such an amount of money at a time when economy is melting down and everyone is suffering. War vets care very much for this country and we are noticing that the Governor of the Reserve Bank is trying so hard to restore liquidity of the economy.”
However, Mutsvangwa urged journalists to stick to their ethics of reporting truthfully and seeking confirmation publish stories.
“I am encouraging journalist to report their stories in a more professional way, I am the chairman of war vets but no reporter contacted me to confirm if the $500 000 story was true,” said Mutsvangwa.
He further claimed that ZNLWVA is an organization committed to seeing the country’s economy grow and more investors coming in.
Commenting on the current state of the economic, Mutsvangwa took a jibe at the Zanu PF Political Commissar, Savior Kasukuwere and Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Jonathan Moyo alleging that they are destroying the country through their corrupt practices.
