One of the country’s leading mobile telecommunications player, NetOne has partnered Elevate Trust to capacitate 75 software developers in the international Google Certification Programme.
The partnership which was launched in Bulawayo recently, marked another feat for NetOne, which is playing its role of being a development oriented company with impetus on empowering the youths.
Google, a subsidiary of the Alphabet company is targeting to empower 100 000 young Africans on how to code for website and mobile applications. The enrollment and training for certification is free.
75 students from tertiary institutions, around the country have been selected to participate in the certification programme. NetOne will provide resources in the form of internet access and hubs or spaces to the participants.
Elevate Trust will mentor and monitor the programme to ensure that participants achieve the certification status, and place Zimbabwe on the map of global software developers.
“NetOne believes in supporting programs that not only benefit the participating students, but all stakeholders and the country at large. As NetOne, the Network of Choice, we are confident that resources at hand will put the world at your finger-tips, as the World become One,” said the company’s chief executive officer Mr Lazarus Muchenje, in speech read on his behalf by NetOne Zone Commander for Bulawayo, Mrs. Elmah Dube.
The advent of the 21st century has witnessed the use of Information Technology, as a key enabler for development and growth of societies, through provision of solutions. The use of mobile applications and solutions is now widespread, as a result of added convenience to information from the world wide web.
“Endless possibilities lie ahead as we all forge together in rebuilding Zimbabwe. The certification program is but one of many NetOne will endeavour to support, to complement government efforts in capacitating the youths, who are our future,” added Dube.
