Award winning second generation stone art mason, Dominic Benhura, who recently made a sculpture of President Mugabe, has crafted yet another sculpture, which is set to be auctioned in the United States.
The auction is slated for the 24th of October 2016, at the occasion to mark 35 years of Margaret McNamara Educations Grants for young women.
The sculpture, was handed over to the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Walter Mzembi, who will facilitate for its auction in America.
“As I campaign for the UNTWO Secretary General post , I bump into occasions that I immediately seize leverage for the benefit of raising the profile of Zimbabwe, and the McNamara fund is one of such events, where I promised to source a donation of a sculpture from Zimbabwe ,” he said.
“It is a high powered event to be presided over by the democratic party, former House of Assembly speaker, Nancy Pelosi and Former Secretary of State Madalaine Albright .
“The sculpture will receive unparalleled recognition likely to open up doors and new markets for the country,” said Mzembi.
Shedding more light on the sculpture, which portrays a girl reading a book , Benhura said that the sculptor was crafted to empower the girl child.
“As you can see, the sculptor replicates a girl reading a book, I want to send the message that if you empower a girl child you have invested,” he said adding that the sculptor honours the International Day of the Girl Child.
