Mother Africa Trust donates furniture to Mabale Primary School

Mother Africa trust, an organisation which seeks to make a positive impact in the areas of education, cultural and environmental research and conservation, last week donated school furniture and sports kits to Mabale Primary School in Hwange.

The handover ceremony which was attended by members of the School Board, parents, children, teachers, local headmen, Alderman S Mapfuwa and Chief Nelukoba from Mabale Village witnessed the school receiving furniture and sports kit.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Guest of Honour, Sharon Stead, the Founding Trustee & Chairman of Mother Africa Trust said the Trust is committed to developing the Hwange and Dete areas, where Amalinda Collection operates Khulu and Ivory Lodge.

‘My name is Sharon Stead, I am a wife and a mother of two and I stay in Bulawayo. I was born in Bulawayo, as was my father, grandfather and great grand-father.

‘I would like to express optimism that I, and my fellow Trustees will do everything possible to ensure that this school continues to excel in the near future’ said Stead, who was born in Bulawayo.

She encouraged the school children to take school work seriously to ensure a better tomorrow.

“The destiny of you students here today is in your hands, as what you do today has greater say in your tomorrow,” she said.

Through a grant from the Australian Embassy, Mother Africa Trust purchased and handed over 100 tables, 153 chairs, 13 teachers’ desks, 13 teachers’ chairs and 80 stools. Additionally, the Trust handed over sports kit, which included 5 netballs, a pair of netball nets, 5 soccer balls, 1 pair of soccer goal nets, 2 volley balls and a volleyball net.

Mabale Primary School, which has been in existence for 80 years has an enrolment of 374 children with 50% of the students being orphans, many of them are affected by HIV/AIDS.

School Headmistress, Mrs Tembo applauded the gesture by Mother Trust Africa saying the donation will go a long way in improving the status of the local school and assisting the children to excel academically.
