In a move that is likely to boost confidence in the new administration, President Emmerson Mnangangwa has told government employees that he is in the process of putting together a new structure to remove functional duplication as well as contain unnecessary expenditure.
Addressing Permanent Secretaries on Tuesday, Mnangagwa said his government will be leaner as he is going to do away with a bloated cabinet by merging ministries.
“I am currently in the process of putting together a new government structures, which should be essentially be leaner and this will entail the emerge of some line Ministries in oder to remove functional duplication as well as contain unnecessary expenditure” said Mnangagwa.
He assured the permanent secretaries that none of them will be laid off as they will be deployed in other government departments.
“I want to assure you that no one will be laid off, expect those who reached the retirement age and those ministerial will be abolished will be re skilled and reassigned to other areas in the Public Services,” added Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile he urged Zimbabweans to take advantage of the positive optimism among the people ushered in by the current dispensation.
“Our people have experienced economic hardships for the past two decade and now they expect the new government to turn things around with in a short space of time possible. and lets take advantage of the positive optimism among our people ushered in by the current dispensation and do out best,” said Mnangagwa.
He further noted that the prime focus of his administration is to implement practical solutions and have no tolerance to bureaucratic slothfulness.
“Our prime focuses should be on the implementation of practical solutions to grow economy, create jobs and to boost the economy and my government have no tolerance for bureaucratic slothfulness which is quick to brandish procedures as an excuse of stalling service delivery to citizens, investors and stakeholders.
“As head of Ministries, your role is supremacy critics in the realization of the aspiration of all our citizens and stakeholders and i will court on you for our success in turning around the fortunes of our economy,” said Mnangangwa.
