A local young women empowerment lobby group, Tag a Life International (TaLI) has appealed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ensure every child goes to school as part of his deliverables during his term of office.
Executive Director of TaLI, Nyaradzo Mashayamombe called on Mnangagwa to respond and action on a letter her organisation wrote on behalf of Every Child In School Campaign (ECIS) campaign.
In the letter, TaLI requested Mnangagwa to put children at the centre of his dispensation by holding the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education accountable by ensuring vulnerable out-of-school primary level children are accepted into government and council primary schools.
“The guardians must also be allowed to negotiate payment plans while children are in school, in the same letter we requested for urgent alignment of the Education and Children’s Act with the constitution,” said Mashayamombe.
She added that the education ministry should be alive to the fact that it is no longer business as usual and act on citizen calls to help children access to education must a thing of the past.
“This dispensation must not ignore citizens but listen and act on citizens recommendations and requests with urgency,
“The government must also put in place measures to ensure women and girls representation in leadership is prioritized and that Zimbabwe respects and makes effort to clearly implement gender equality in all its programmes including ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’, removing violence against women in private and public spaces before, during and after elections,” added Mashayamombe.
TaLI urged President Mnangagwa to prioritize women and spell out how he intends to roll out equality in all activities including representation of women in the presidium, the executive and all Government organs.
