The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Schools in Masvingo has 290 vacant posts for primary school deputy heads, according to a notice posted by the then acting Provincial Education Director, Fadzai Jirivengwa.
Primary school teachers with degrees and experience of more than two years have been asked to apply and submit their applications by September 26, 2014. There is an average of 70 vacancies in each of the province’s districts with Gutu District for example having 78 vacancies.
Don Bosco is the only school in Masvingo Urban with a vacancy while there are about three notable primary schools with vacancies in Chiredzi Urban including Kyle. Several prominent mission schools also don’t have deputy heads including Mutero and Bondolfi.
Some of the duties of the deputy head include being in charge of the school in the absence of the headmaster, being the link between the school and the community, being responsible for disciplinary, drawing the school’s master timetable, supervising teachers’ professional duties and performing any other duties assigned by the deputy head. Recently the Ministry filled up 47 vacant posts for secondary school heads in Masvingo following interviews, news and education.
