The MDC President advocate Nelson Chamisa has described submissions by the military generals to the Commission of Inquiry into the 1st of August violence, as a ploy to weaken and eliminate his party which has emerged as a democratic alternative in the country.

The military bosses including Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander, Philip Valerio Sibanda denied shooting at civilians, blaming the opposition MDC’s youth wing for the 1st of August 2018 killings.

Chamisa took to Twitter to register his concern over what he says are plans by the state to hire witnesses to testify against his party.

“I see the effort to nail the innocent exonerating the guilty. A ploy to weaken and eliminate MDC and faces in the democratic alternative.

“Was briefed of this strategy three months ago. Soon you will see vindictive arrests, hired ‘witnesses’ making stories to victimize.”

Chamisa has recently castigated the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry saying it was irrelevant and a waste of resources.

Addressing thousands of his party followers at the party’s 19th anniversary in Harare a fortnight ago, the former Kuwadzana legislator challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to invite international journalists and foreign internationals who were in the country and in the streets of Harare charging that they have documentation that helps to unpack what transpired on the fateful day.
