The MDC Youth Secretary and Member of Parliament for Highfields constituency Happymore Chidziva who handed himself to the police at Harare Central police station today has been taken to Gweru where he is set to appear in court tomorrow.
Chidziva who was on the police wanted list in relation to post election public violence handed himself to the Law and Order police in the company of his lawyer Jeremiah Bamu from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
According to Bamu, Chidziva is being charged with inciting public violence.
“I have just left Harare Central police station now and I am following Chidziva to Gweru where his charges appear to relate to what he said when he was in Gweru,
“He is charged with inciting public violence,” Bamu told 263Chat.
Over 34 opposition supporters including MDC Alliance principal, Tendai Biti have been arrested in connection with the post election violence that rocked Harare on the 1st of August.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since appointed a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the disturbing events that saw six people shot dead by soldiers. The commission is chaired by former South African President, Kgalema Motlante.
