MDC-T sheds light on shadow cabinet

The Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change, has shed more light on the recently appointed shadow government.

The portfolios  as announced by party president Morgan Tsvangirai will be headed by Theresa Makone (foreign affairs), Henry Madzorera (health), Paurina Mpariwa (public service, labour and social security), Gift Chimanikire (defence), Giles Mutsekwa (home affairs), Fanny Chirisa (women’s affairs), Douglas Mwonzora (legal affairs), Takanayi Mureyi (commerce, industry, trade, small and medium enterprises), Heneri Dzinotyiwei (education, tertiary and vocational training), and Valentine Ziswa (agriculture, infrastructure and food security).

Speaking to  263chat, Obert Gutu, party spokesperson said the shadow cabinet  is meant to bail Zimbabweans out of the economic doldrums by constantly checking on government policies .

“The shadow government is meant to check on the  policies by Zanu PF ministries while at the same time imposing good governance to pull Zimbabweans out of a quagmire,” he said.

Gutu added that the shadow cabinet will provide  his party with an opportunity, to draw alternative policies.

He also said MDC-T  ‘shadow’ ministers will be able to closely shadow what Zanu Pf ministers will be doing.

“The  idea of the shadow cabinet is hinged on the need to monitor the activities of Zanu PF ministers .

“’The shadow cabinet will  offer alternative policies as we are obliged to monitor government polices as the opposition ,” he said.

However independent political analyst Dr Pedzisayi Ruhanya said the shadow cabinet is laughable.

“MDC-T’s shadow cabinet is laughable. How can you have a shadow cabinet of this opposition outfit where Dr. Ruth Labode and Jessie Majome are missing? Too much tomfoolery and celebration of mediocrity. Thats why some people end up leaving and breaking away”,”said Dr Ruhanya in a Facebook post.

  • Did Ruhanya provide an alternative if the shadow cabinet is laughable? He seem to have taken a penchant for criticism directed at those who are putting their heads on the line to provide alternative governance to the current brazen failure. True or guinine criticism should come with viable alternatives.
