MDC-T Mashonaland Provincial Chairperson Justice Chitate has said that the party is not in agreement with the court application made by its provincial members, George Rice and Patson Murimoga.
In a statement Chitate said that the party has since distanced itself from Rice and Murimoga whom he said were causing divisions within the ranks of the party.
“On behalf of Mashonaland Central Province, I would like to distance ourselves from the Court application made by Patson Murimoga and George Rice. It should be noted that George Rice was a Provincial member but has since been disowned by the district that he purports to represent, which is Mt Darwin North for causing serious divisions within the ranks of the party in the District.
“The brief history of George Rice is marred with controversy and serious signs of instability as he defected with Welshman Ncube in 2005. He then joined a certain party called UPP led by Daniel Shumba where he took up the position of Provincial Coordinator. He is a serial sell-out and it is therefore not surprising to see George Rice undermining resolutions of the Council and the National Congress,” reads part of the statement.
The two, Murimoga and Rice recently dragged MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai to High Court for violating the party’s constitution when he appointed Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Engineer Elias Mudzuri to the vice presidency..
In his founding affidavit, Mr Murimoga argues that the appointments contravened the party’s constitution and should be reversed.
However, Chitate further said that Mashonaland Central Province is fully behind the Party’s National Council Resolutions as implemented by the President of the party. He said that no one should stand in the way of execution of the mandate the people of Mashonaland Central.
Reports indicate that some senior MDC-T officials are up in arms with party leader Morgan Tsvangirai for elevating Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Engineer Elias Mudzuri to the party vice presidency, a move they allege violated the MDC-T constitution.
