Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Secretary General, Victor Matemadanda, who was arrested together with three other senior war veterans was today granted $300 .
Harare magistrate, Vakai Chikweke granted , Victor Matemadanda, Samuel Billa, Headman Moyo and the association’s Harare executive member, Wayne Bhila bail a day after Douglas Mahiya was also released on $300 bail.
The four are facing allegations of undermining the authority of the president as defined in section 33(2b) of the constitution.
Representing the four, Beatrice Mtetwa and David Drury submitted their notices to the court challenging the police for detaining the accused persons for a longer period.
Mtetwa also notified the court that she was going to challenge the certificate of prosecution which she said was not signed by the Prosecutor General.
She added that the rights of the accused persons were violated as section 84 of the constitution allows war vets to air their concerns to the president.
The four were arrested as a result of a communique issued by the war veterans association. In the communique, the war veterans called on President Mugabe to step down
Harare Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe postponed the matter to 5 September 2016, ordering the accused persons to report to their nearest police stations.
