Magaya arrested on rape charge

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance  Ministries (PHD) leader, Walter Magaya has been granted $2000 bail after he was dragged to Harare magistrate court today, facing rape charges as defined in section 65 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9.23).

The PHD leader was arrested on Friday night after his church service and was detained at Rhodesville police station.

Harare Magistrate, Vakai Chikwekwe granted Magaya $2000 bail on conditions that he stays his home, surrender his travelling documents and to report report to Harare Central Police Station three times weekly .

According to the state papers, the accused person invited the complainant to house number 22 Colt Road, Mt Pleasant where he persuaded  her to get into the  house.

The papers added that accused later returned to the room where he had left the complaint while he was naked, and then forced the complainant to have sexual intercourse without the complainant’s consent and without using protection.

In defence, Magaya said that the woman wanted to extort $100 000 from him.

Magistrate Chikwekwe remanded the case to 15 September.
