Lockdown Further Extended By Two Weeks

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the level four lockdown by a further two weeks with business and curfew hours adjusted.

Addressing the nation at State House, President Mnangagwa said the lockdown extension will allow active cases and those incubation to rescind.

“The number of active cases and deaths are still high, these need to come down every life lost is a big loss to us, I therefore extend the national lockdown by a further two weeks the extension will allow the number of active cases and those still in incubation to rescind. This extension should cause a great reduction in the pool of infected people and enable health personnel to investigate and monitor the presence and circulation of new variants,” said Mnangagwa

Mnangagwa announced that business operating hours will now extend to 1700hours from the 1500hours initially announced early this year while curfew hours will now run from 0530hrs to 2000hours.

“The new measures will operate as follows , hours of business will be 0800hrs to 1700hrs in the afternoon, curfew is from 2000hrs to 0530hrs in the morning. No inter city and interprovincial commuting, funerals gatherings to remain pegged at 30 people with all social gatherings remain banned,” he added.

President Mnangagwa said essential services remain functional with all private companies seeking resumption of operation to comply with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

Schools remain closed while inter-city and inter provincial movement remain banned.

Zimbabwe received its first batch of 200 000 COVID-19 vaccines from China which will be administered from the 18th of February.
