Local Churches under the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) have discouraged the christian community against attending the highly publicized Peace and Family Festival set to be held in Harare tomorrow saying they do not identify with the teachings of the movement.
According to a statement released today, the movement is against Christian traditions.
“Zimbabweans, especially Christians have been raising anxious questions regarding the impending visit of the leader of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.
” As ZCC in light of our convictions and Christian traditions, we do not identify with the teachings and practices of this movement and therefore we will not participate in their event.
“Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and reverence.’ (1 Peter 3 verse 15),” reads the statement.
Meanwhile government through the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Twitter handle has welcomed the leader of the Family Peace Association, Dr Sun Myung Moon saying her visit is a religious tourism boost for the country.
“Over the years various mainline and Pentecostal churches have made significant headway in not only drawing international delegates to Zimbabwe, but spreading messages of hope, faith and peace.
“Freedom of worship is a universal right. Religion brings people together and promotes peace. Zimbabwe has been blessed to host many international religious conventions that opened the way to religious tourism. Government welcomes Dr Moon and her Peace Festival team,” tweeted government.
