Missing journalist-cum human rights activist, Itai Dzamara was abducted by military intelligence, Patson Dzamara has said.
Itai Dzamara was forcibly taken by yet unknown assailants about 15 months ago .
Speaking during a press conference, Patson, Itai’s brother made sensational claims that the latter who has been missing for more than 15months, is in the hands of the country’s military intelligence.
“Some individuals from within the evil establishment volunteered information regarding who abducted Itai Dzamara, why and where he was kept. The heinous act was executed by state security agents, in particular the military intelligence.
“Incontestable evidence was availed to us and I dare Mr. Mugabe and his surrogates to prove me wrong. They can’t, because this is the truth. I cannot at this juncture state my brother’s fate in the hands of these gangsters but I can categorically inform you that Itai Dzamara was abducted by the military intelligence under the direct instruction and supervision of ZANU PF,” claimed Patson.
He also claimed the police has been dragging its feet in trying to come up with a suspect and this has raised a lot of suspicion regarding who abducted Dzamara.
“One of the key points to note ever since Itai disappeared is the absence of a suspect. The police failed to come up with a single lead for over a year. We all know how efficient our police force is. .. It had to take a court order for the police to be compelled to investigate the matter. They were initially reluctant to investigate the matter” said Patson while reading from a statement.
He promised to name and shame individuals who are responsible for his brother’s abduction saying at the moment he can not divulge more due to security reasons.
Patson Dzamara said the continued silence and refusal to comment by state officials including President Robert Mugabe makes it curious. He stated the few times they have commented on the disappearance they were trivializing the matter and uttering irresponsible statements. This has made the family more determined in their quest to find Itai.
He also assured the nation that the fight is no longer about finding his missing brother, but it is about a better Zimbabwe
Patson produced an image which he claimed was portraying his brother in captivity.
In the picture, a man is seen sitting in a dark room but with a white mask on his face. The man in the image is wearing blue jeans.
This is a professionally verified picture and authentic image of Itai Dzamara in one of the places they kept him. I shall avail more details.” Concluded Dzamara.
There have been rumors that the missing activist could be dead but his brother could neither confirm if he still alive or dead.
