Zanu PF Bikita West legislator , Munyaradzi Kereke was yesterday slapped with a 10 year jail term after he was convicted of rape.
Kereke was found guilty of raping a minor as defined in section 65 of the criminal law codification (Reform Act).
Passing his judgment, Harare Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa said that he was convinced with evidence which was brought before the courts. He said that Kereke created evidence and as well as coaching witnesses on what to say.
Private prosecutor Charles Warara said Kereke rapped a minor at gunpoint.
The augmentation by Warara led to the conclusion by Harare Magistrate Mupeiwa that, the minor complainant was raped at a gun point.
“Kereke used a gun to instill fear in a minor girl, whom he rapped. Despite him having many wives he went on to rape the minor, exposing her to diseases like HIV and sexually transmitted infections ,” Warara said.
Upon mitigation, Kereke’s lawyer Erum Mutandira pleaded with Magistrate Mupeiwa to have mercy on his client saying that it was his first offence. He also said that Kereke’s family depended on him for survival.
