Zimbabwe is taking part at the global International Telecommunications Union Plenipotentiary 2018 Conference currently underway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Representing Zimbabwe is Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services, Kazembe Kazembe, Permanent Secretary Engineer Sam Kundishora and top officials from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz).
The conference is organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) which is an agency of the United Nations responsible for issues that concern information communication technologies across the globe.
Among the major subjects taking center stage in the 2018 edition of the conference include stirring the world towards total Internet connectivity, building digital economies, and the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through advancement of information communication technologies.
Following the proceedings via a webinar, Houlin Zhao who is the Secretary General of the ITU said it was high time the world turns the digital revolution into a development revolution.
“As we approach the 50/50 milestone moment for Internet connectivity, far too many people around the world are still waiting to reap the benefits of the much hyped digital economies” added the ITU Secretary General.
The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres said the Plenipotentiary 2018 conference will set the International Telecommunications Union on a distinguished path for the next 4 years as we strive together to build a more sustainable and inclusive digital economy for generations to come.
