High Court judge Justice Davison Foroma has freed convicted Zimdancehall producers DJ Fantan, Levels and Dhama on ZWL$10 000 bail each pending appeal against sentence.
In granting the appeal, Justice Foroma said their appeal against sentence has chances of succeeding.
The duo were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with six suspended, for violating Covid-19 national lockdown regulations after hosting a new year’s eve bash against a government imposed lockdown.
Their lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni told the court that the duo were not going to abscond if granted bail considering that they actually surrendered themselves to the police and cooperated well during their Magistrates Court proceedings.
“It is submitted, with due reverence, that both applicants harbour no intentions of absconding from justice,” said Mthombeni.
“During investigations and at court, first and second applicants were highly and exceptionally cooperative; as such an inference of them absconding if granted bail cannot be sustained in the circumstances.”
